Family Tree

For years we’ve been discussing doing this, but we’ve finally started!

P was at home for a few days last week after hurting his back. As a result he was stuck watching day time TV. One of the programmes he got in to was “Heir Hunters” on BBC1.

It’s a great programme, and got us wanting to research our family trees. So, we decided to sign up to

We decided to start off with P’s side of the family. We filled in the details of our births, marriage, the births of our children, P’s brother’s birth. The birth of his Mum, Dad, Nan and Grandad, along with his Grandad and Mum’s deaths.

Once that was done, we were able to ask P’s 90yr old Nan about her brothers and sisters (P’s Grandad was an only child). P’s Nan is one of 9 children! Even with her shady memory, and the help of the records, we were able to trace her family back, as well as that of P’s Grandad’s!

We found that one of the relatives that was alive in the late 1700’s/early 1800’s had 2 wives and a total of 24 children!!!! WOW!

We have a plaque in our downstairs toilet that is all about our surname, where it came from and mentions important people that shared the same surname. It turns out we are related to one of them!

It so interesting to find out where your roots come from! I can’t wait to get cracking on my side!!
